The 2023 Distinguished Guest Series will feature Tom Papa and Mariachi Herencia de Mexico.

KOHLER – The Kohler Foundation has announced the lineup for the 78th season of its Distinguished Guest Series, which will take place at the Kohler Memorial Theater, 660 School St. in Kohler.

Leading off the series is critically-acclaimed comedian Tom Papa on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 8 p.m. For the past 20 years, Papa has been one of the most highly sought after stand-up comics in America with multiple appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Show with David Letterman and The Joe Rogan Experience, five Netflix specials and national tours with the likes of Jerry Seinfeld.

In addition to stand-up comedy, Papa has enjoyed success as an actor, host and author. His acting credits include the films “Behind the Candleabra” with Michael Douglas and Matt Damon, “Analyze That” with Robert DeNiro and Billy Crystal, and “The Informant” with Damon and Scott Bakula.

Papa’s television credits include recurring roles on the CBS sitcom “The New Adventures of Old Christine” and the Cinemax medical drama “The Knick,” along with hosting gigs on NBC’s “The Marriage Ref” and the Food Network’s “Baked.”

As an author, Papa wrote “Your Dad Stole My Rake: And Other Family Dilemmas,” “You’re Doing Great! – And Other Reasons to Stay Alive,” and the upcoming “We’re All In This Together…So Make Room,” which will be released on June 6, 2023.

Papa is also the host of the highly-rated podcast “Breaking Bread with Tom Papa” and the popular daily Netflix radio show “What A Joke With Papa and Fortune” with fellow comedian Fortune Feimster.

In March, the Kohler Memorial Theater will be alive with the sounds of Mexico as Latin Grammy-nominated band Mariachi Herencia de Mexico will perform on Friday, March 10 at 8 p.m.

The Chicago-based group has drawn praise for its colorful, energetic and musically-ambitious performances at venues such as Washington D.C.’s The Kennedy Center and Guadalajara, Mexico’s Teatro Degollado. In its shows, the band not only honors the rich tradition of mariachi, it also celebrates the present and shapes the future of regional Mexican music.

Mariachi Herencia de Mexico has released five acclaimed studio albums, including the chart-topping debut “Nuestra Herencia,” which garnered a Latin Grammy nomination for “Best Ranchero/Mariachi Album” in 2017, and the band’s latest, “Herederos,” which the group will be featuring at this concert.

Mariachi expert and historian Jonathan Clark has high praise for “Herederos,” referring to it as a “masterpiece” and stating “This is mariachi music at its most sophisticated and most modernistic.”
