The Sheboygan North Raiders took advantage of sloppy play by the Sheboygan South Redwings to score a 9-1 win in Monday afternoon’s Fox River Classic Conference baseball matchup at Wildwood Park.
North jumped out to a 2-0 first inning lead on two hit batsmen, a walk and an error by South. The Raiders extended their advantage to 7-0 with five more runs in the second, as two more Redwing errors set up RBI singles by Ian Merry, Ryan Traas and Tyler Schoessow.
On the mound, Raiders’ starter Cody Morrow kept Redbird bats in check, giving up three hits and no runs in four innings while recording the win.
North added two runs in the fifth inning on RBI singles by Curtis Johnson and Justin Gmach to go up 9-0. The Redwings scored their lone run on an RBI double by Jacob Leonhard in the sixth to avoid the shutout.
Drew Widder moved over from second base to pitch the final three innings for the Raiders, giving up just one run. At the plate, Widder drew four of North’s eight walks, stole two bases and scored two runs. Traas and Evan Thuemmler added two runs each, while Traas led the Raiders with two RBIs.
