SHEBOYGAN – The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay’s Sheboygan campus, 1 University Drive in Sheboygan, will be hosting STEMfest: Inspire Innovation 2022 on Thursday, Oct. 13 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

The educational event, which focuses on careers in science, technology, engineering and math, is sponsored by the Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce’s Business and Education Partnership, and is open to over 1,300 4th and 5th grade students from Sheboygan County.

Local businesses will be partnering with Lakeland University, Lakeshore Technical College, UWGB’s Resch School of Engineering, The Einstein Project and Elementastics to provide hands-on experiences for students.

The goal of the event is to show students how the skills they learn in school have a tangible impact on their communities. STEM-related demonstrations will take place in three sessions: 9-10:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. and 12-1:30 p.m.

As the world grows more technologically-advanced, STEM careers are in increasingly high demand. According to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, STEM careers are expected to increase 10.8% from 2021-31, which is more than double the percentage increase of non-STEM careers, which is 4.9%.

STEM jobs are also some of the highest paying. In 2021, STEM careers paid an average annual salary of $95,420, as opposed to $40,120 for non-STEM careers.
