SHEBOYGAN — Last week, the Sheboygan Area School District extended its virtual learning through Thanksgiving break, leaving athletes and sports fan alike asking one question:
Will Sheboygan Area School District be holding winter sports?
According to Superintendent Seth Harvatine, the Fox River Classic Conference (FRCC) does have a plan in place.
The conference has adopted a revised winter sports conference schedule. Practices would begin Jan. 4 with conference competitions beginning Jan. 12. Each school will be able to determine if students can participate in strength training or non-conference competitions prior to both respective dates.
The Sheboygan Area School District will begin in-person winter sports activities on Thursday, Dec. 3, according to a district newsletter.
At this time, scheduling is still underway, and a winter sports calendar has not yet been released.
"We are hopeful and optimistic as we approach the winter sports season but we must also keep perspective. If we truly hope to give our children an opportunity to participate, we are all going to have to make sacrifices and unselfish choices," the letter states. "It has been roughly 9 months since North or South has hosted a school sponsored co-curricular event. The determination of whether or not we can proceed will be based upon the level of COVID spread within our community which may result in altered winter co-curricular plans."
