Schwaller's July

Chipping paint might be distinguished on a vintage piece of furniture, but on your exterior? Not so much. Not only do you want to keep your home or business looking good, but preserving the integrity of the structure means maintaining it and avoiding more extensive–and therefore expensive–problems later on.

Summer is the peak season for exterior painting and staining jobs, but local, award-winning company Schwaller’s Painting & Staining has availability and is here to help. They’ve won Best of Sheboygan County for five years running.

Here’s what they offer

If you’re a Sheboygan homeowner, your home is likely your largest asset. “You have to protect your investment,” says founder Brian Schwaller.

Making home improvements while the weather’s amenable? Getting ready to put your home up for sale? Remedying issues that occurred during the winter? Schwaller’s team of skilled painters and stainers help you with all of that and more:

  • Exterior house painting and staining
  • Deck refinishing and staining
  • Porch and fence painting
  • Pressure washing and cleaning
  • Metal roofs and aluminum siding
  • Cedar siding and log homes
  • Door and window painting
  • Brick and masonry painting
  • Barn painting

“If you don’t maintain your exterior, you have to replace it eventually. Peeling or fading paint, mildew or mold, all of that needs to be maintained.” Brian says. Or if your structure is in good shape but needs an aesthetic or design refresh, Schwaller’s will create the look that you envision.

If you run a Sheboygan County business, Schwaller’s can handle the following for you–with minimal disruption to your day-to-day operations:

  • Office painting
  • Commercial and retail painting
  • Condo complex and apartment painting
  • Industrial and warehouse painting
  • Painting bollards, posts and railings
  • Entrances and service doors

What about what’s underneath the paint—the plaster and/or drywall? Schwaller’s can help with that too, whether it’s repairing existing drywall or installing new drywall. Schwaller’s can fix:

  • Stress cracks from property settling
  • Water damage
  • Hole patching and repair
  • Ceiling plaster repairs and texturing
  • Wallpaper removal and residential drywall repairs
  • Refinishing for electrical outlets and switches
  • New drywall installation and finishing for residential projects
  • Texture matching
  • Texture removal including popcorn ceilings

Make it a win-win: How to help Schwaller’s help you

Over the 18 years of running his company, Brian has seen time and time again that customers play an important role in helping a job get done well and on time. He has a few recommendations for customers to help ensure a smooth, successful process from start to finish.

Be specific about what you want. The main questions contractors want you to answer: “What do you want?” “What do you need done?” Basic answers might include whether the project is interior or exterior, painting or drywall, wood or concrete, etc. A good contractor will ask additional questions to help you specify the details of what you want your end product to look like. The clearer and more specific you can be about what you need, the better.

Not sure what you need? That’s okay. Describe the issue you’re having and your desired end goal. Your contractor or estimator can visit your location to collect more details. All of these details will become the scope of work, or the written, agreed-upon document that dictates exactly what the contractor will do and for what cost.

A good scope of work is black and white. For example, if a scope of work simply says, “paint exterior of house,” that could result in a less than desirable product, and thus an extended deadline because it’s so vague. If the scope of work says “clean, scrape, prime and paint exterior of house,” the project is much more likely to result in a fantastic end product by the desired date.

Communicate any changes. Changes are common during a paint, stain, or drywall job. They just need to be updated in writing on the scope of work to avoid any vagueness and therefore any delays. Contractors need to know soon as possible that additional work is needed so that they can prioritize you in their schedule and meet your ideal deadline.
