Get to know: Lindsay Patterson

Position: Principal Cello, SSO Orchestra Representative

How long have you been playing with the SSO?

This season marks my eighth season being with the Sheboygan Symphony, and my second as Principal Cellist.

What has been one of your most memorable experiences playing with the SSO?

I have two memories that stand out in my time with the SSO. The first one was the performance of Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 6, when I shared the stage with colleagues including Molly Liebermann and Rachael Charles who performed the solo viola parts. My second memory was our performance of La Mer, it was phenomenal.

What is your favorite symphonic work?

I love big and bold works, Dvorak’s No.9 and Beethoven’s Eroica are both favorites, but recently I’ve been listening to the Mendelssohn String Octet quite often.

What would you most like to play in a future concert?

I would love to perform works similar to the magnitude of Mahler’s 2nd Symphony, so more Mahler, maybe Bruckner’s 9th Symphony or a work by Shoenberg.

Who are your favorite musical artists, classical or popular, and what have you been listening to this month?

When in the car I listen to BPM quite often! I’ve also been listening to competition options for my students for this year’s WSMA and Federation events.

What is your occupation outside of the SSO?

My full time work consists of being a private cello lesson instructor and performer. I have a private studio in Hartland of 36 students which I have built up and maintain over the past 6 years. I also love to take on new and exciting performing opportunities when I can.

Are there any hidden talents, favorite hobbies or fun facts we may not know about you?

My husband and I are very active, pre-covid we were both on an intramural indoor soccer team that we’ve been members of for a few years. We also very much enjoy snowboarding, hiking, frisbee golfing, and we’ve recently started training for Adventure Racing with two other teammates.
