SHEBOYGAN COUNTY — Gov. Tony Evers approved a $7.99 million contract to improve 7.4 miles of I-43 from the southern Sheboygan County line to Wilson/Lima Road.
The project began on Monday, April 26, and is anticipated to be completed by Sept 2. According to the release, I-43 will remain open to one lane during construction.
Additionally, a 1.1 mile section of State Route 32 will be resurfaced in the area between Main Street in the village of Cedar Grove and I-43. This project is scheduled to begin on July 26 and should be complete by Sept. 2.
About the project
The projects are designed to address deterioration of the existing pavement service, which will also provide a smoother drive for motorists as well as extending the life of the existing pavement.Â
Construction of I-43 will include base patching, milling off 2 inches of the existing asphalt, installing a 4-inch overlay, base aggregate shouldering, culvert extensions, beam guard adjustments, signing upgrades and pavement markings.
Construction on 32 will include base patching, curb and gutter repairs, milling of concrete pavement along the curb and installing an asphalt overlay. Union Pacific Railroad will also replace the railroad crossing located just east of Main Street in Cedar Grove.
