Armory still

SHEBOYGAN — Construction crews began tearing down the exterior walls of the Sheboygan Municipal Auditorium and Armory Friday.

The City of Sheboygan began demolition of the nearly 80-year-old armory in July after much opposition. In its time, the armory was host to local sporting and entertainment events and even one of the NBA's charter franchises, the Sheboygan Redskins.

The city has teamed with the Sheboygan County Historical Museum and Society and Sheboygan County Historical Research Center to create a display down the road.

Here is our video from the top portion of the north wall being torn down around 3 p.m. Friday.

Gary Kaker, a Sheboygan native, was one of about 10 people on-site to watch the demolition Friday afternoon. But his time out there started the day before. Hear some of his favorite Armory memories as a basketball player and his thoughts on the project.
