Mike Vandersteen

SHEBOYGAN — Sheboygan Mayor Mike Vandersteen confirmed that he has tested positive for COVID-19.

Vandersteen received his test results on Tuesday. His last day working in City Hall was Monday, Nov. 2.

"Really, I'm not feeling to bad," he said Wednesday evening. "I haven't had really any bad symptoms—a little loss of smell and taste, but those are starting to come back. I really haven't had much of a fever or cough."

Vandersteen has publicly spoken on the seriousness of COVID-19, and the safety measures our community members should take.

He said he's still unsure where he could have contracted the virus, making it the perfect example that anyone can catch the coronavirus at any time.

"I don't know where I could have picked it up, it's still kind of a mystery," he said. "You get it, and you just have to go with it and deal."

Vandersteen said his last day of quarantine will be Saturday, Nov. 14.
