SHEBOYGAN — The Sheboygan Police Department alerted residents on Monday, Oct. 5, of a potential scam warning.

The post states that residents have reported calls saying they are with Publishers Clearing House or other contests. The calls are asking "winners" to provide their personal and banking information and to pay for the prize with gift cards.

SPD reminds community members to protect themselves explaining, "if something sounds too good to be true, it likely is."

"Please take steps to protect yourself from such scams. Never give out your bank information or Social Security information to unknown callers," the post states. "Do not agree to send pre-paid gift cards, checks, or money orders. Any legitimate organization will not request gift cards as payment/compensation."
