SHEBOYGAN — In November, Sheboygan Sun reporter Tara Jones was promoted to the role of managing editor of the Sheboygan and Madison markets for Wisconsin Media Group, and contributor Chad Held joined the staff as a full-time reporter.

Jones will be overseeing both print and digital content for The Sheboygan Sun, The Oregon Observer, The Stoughton Courier Hub, The Verona Press and the Fitchburg Star. Serving as a contributor since February, Held has replaced Jones as the full-time reporter for the Sun.

Meet Tara Jones

Jones moved to Wisconsin in September of 2020, where she helped launch Sheboygan’s digital news website and revamp the print product—formerly just a shopper. The website now averages around 200,000 monthly pageviews just one year after its launch, and she looks forward to taking that element to the Fitchburg, Oregon, Stoughton and Verona markets.

Originally from Ohio, Jones has previously worked at The Sidney Daily News, the Sentinel-Tribune and The Lima News, all in the Buckeye state. She is a 2015 graduate from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, with a bachelor’s degree in multimedia journalism and a minor in women’s studies.

While at BGSU, Jones served on the editorial staff of the university’s student publication, The BG News, as sports editor. She began her career as a sports reporter, also working part-time at Bowling Green’s city paper, the Sentinel-Tribune, covering high school and college sports.

Jones later joined the reporting staff at The Lima News in Lima, Ohio, as a community reporter handling feature writing and entertainment for two years before leaving for Wisconsin to try her hand at a more digital-forward approach at The Sheboygan Sun.
