Gladys P. Sargent

Gladys Sargent was born on August 6, 1931 and passed away on October 12, 2018 at the age of 87. 

She attended local school and graduated from Oostburg High School with the class of 1949. On February 3, 1951, Gladys (Mertes) was united in marriage with Earl Sargent at Oostburg First Reformed Church. During her working years, she was employed by Wilson Insurance Company as a claims specialist and also worked for the Sheboygan Press for over 10 years. Gladys was a member of the VFW Post 9156 Auxiliary and St. John’s United Church of Christ where she was involved with the Women’s Guild. She also enjoyed spending time in Florida and traveling with Earl. In recent years, she became efficient on the computer and enjoyed creative coloring and doing puzzles.

Gladys is survived by her children, Lorie (Robert) Zelle of Sheboygan Falls, Sandra (Ronald) Bowe of Sheboygan Falls, Larry (Kim) Sargent of Tucson, AZ and Jeffrey (Theresa) Sargent of Sheboygan; grandchildren, Jennifer (Scott) Hackel, Alison (friend, Cliff Kissinger) Zelle, Tyler (Jessica) Bowe, Andrew Sargent, Raianna Sargent, Ariana (Matt) Wight, Tony (Trina) Sargent and Kalley Sargent; great-grandchildren, Natalia and Alexa Hackel, Travis Lance and Addilyn Bowe, Jack Sargent, Logan and Jocelyn Wight, Colton and Shailene Sargent; brother, Aaron (Shirley) Mertes and sisters-in-law, Kathleen Mertes and Kim Mertes.

Gladys is preceded in death by her husband, Earl; parents, Raymond and Elva Mertes; grandson, Travis Lee Bowe; siblings, Irma (Richard) Janey, Roland, Gilbert (Virginia), Jerome (Louise) and Norman; brother-in-law, LaMoine (Joyce) Sargent and sisters-in-law, Donna Mertes and Shirley Mertes.She is further survived by other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Reinbold-Novak Funeral Home, 1535 S. 12th St., Sheboygan, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of memorial service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Glady’s name.
