Thomas L. Johnson

Thomas L. "TJ" Johnson, 82, of Sheboygan, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 14, 2018. Thomas was born to the late William and Loretta Johnson on December 23, 1935, in Sheboygan. He went to school at Holy Name and graduated from North High School in 1954. Thomas married his high school sweetheart, Donna Franzen, that same year at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Sheboygan. He was a journeyman plumber for 16 years and became the Plumbing Inspector for the City of Sheboygan for 6 years. Additionally, he served part time as the Town of Sheboygan plumbing inspector. Thomas finally retired in 1998 after 10 years with the Sheboygan Water Utility as a supervisor. He was a long-time member of the East Central Wisconsin Plumbing Inspectors Association, serving also as president.

Thomas stayed very involved at St. Dominic Catholic Church. He was a member of the Usher Society, building and grounds committee, funeral servers and leader of the lawn crew. He was the church handyman. Thomas was also a 58-year member and active volunteer of the Knights of Columbus.

Thomas and Donna enjoyed traveling around the United States with favorite spots in Florida, Door County and to cottages. He was an avid golfer and a member of Town and County’s Men’s League for many years. Thomas was a supporter of the Sheboygan marching groups with his kids and was involved in his sons’ Boy Scouting. He served together with his son Lee in the Special Deputy Sheriffs Association. His children and grandchildren were everything to him. He was their number one fan on the sidelines and at concerts. Thomas loved grilling, woodworking, yardwork and get togethers with his family, neighbors and friends and always could share a funny story or joke. Recently, he was known as the “man of all seasons” in the neighborhood because of his love for decorating his home. Thomas belonged to the Old Timers Baseball group and loved going to Timber Rattler games with friends. He was a Packers and Brewers fan.

Thomas is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Donna; children, Lee (Jamie) Johnson and Lori (David) Biebel; grandchildren, Adam, Ryan and Lindsay Biebel, Kelly (Michael) Anhalt, Matthew (Kelly) Carpenter and Joseph Carpenter; great grandchildren, Brady and Brinn Anhalt and William and Madeline Carpenter; son-in-law, Steven (Christy) Carpenter; brother, William Johnson, Jr. of New York, 2 brothers-in-law as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; in-laws; son, Larry Johnson; daughter, Linda Carpenter and sisters, Pat, Carol, Mary and Nancy.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 2136 N. 21st St., Sheboygan, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:30 a.m. Private burial will take place later at Calvary Cemetery.
